WASHINGTON, D.C. – (August 10, 2026) – The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) today announced a change to one of the waiting periods associated with NASAA’s Series 63, Series 65, and Series 66 qualification examinations.
The revision will shorten the waiting period for candidates after their third unsuccessful attempt from 180 days to 60 days, allowing candidates the ability to retest 120 days earlier. The new waiting period will take effect January 4, 2027.
“This adjustment strikes the appropriate balance between providing candidates with greater flexibility, while continuing to protect the integrity of the examinations. NASAA’s qualification exams can be taken without firm sponsorship and while we are proud of this feature, it does add additional risks that had to be weighed when evaluating the waiting periods between attempts,” said Elizabeth Bowling, NASAA President-Elect and chair of the Exams Advisory Committee.
“I want to thank NASAA’s Exams Advisory Committee for its work in developing the recommendation. I also want to thank the NASAA membership for their feedback on this important matter. NASAA looks forward to working with FINRA to implement the updated waiting periods in advance of the January 4, 2027, effective date,” said Marni Rock Gibson, NASAA President.
The waiting periods after the first and second unsuccessful attempts remain unchanged at 30 days.
