WASHINGTON, D.C. – (October 2, 2023) – The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) today joined with the SEC’s Office of Investor Education and Advocacy (OIEA), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the National Futures Association (NFA), and the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC), to recognize World Investor Week and highlight educational resources available to investors.

“NASAA is proud to work together with so many agencies to support the goals of World Investor Week,” said Claire McHenry, NASAA President and Deputy Director of the Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance Bureau of Securities. “Our members understand that investor education is essential to fighting against investment fraud.  NASAA members’ community events, Informed Investor Advisories, and Investor Alerts are there to equip Main Street investors with the tools they need to make informed financial decisions.”

NASAA’s Investor Education Section Committee supports state and provincial securities regulators’ investor education efforts. The Committee, along with a network of investor education professionals from across NASAA’s North American membership, is responsible for developing, delivering, coordinating, and supporting content that can be used by securities regulators in their ongoing initiatives to improve the level of financial knowledge of investors in their jurisdictions.

NASAA encourages investors to read the World Investor Week Bulletin as well as check out NASAA’s Investor Education page and its recent advisories on scams and fraud, using BrokerCheck and IARD in the United States and Canada’s National Registration Search to research investment professionals, and a seniors’ guide to staying safe online. Investors can also find more tools and report complaints by contacting their regulator using this guide.
