May 9 Forum to Focus on Regulatory, Business Challenges Raised as Baby Boomers Near Retirement

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 27, 2006) —The North American Securities Administrators Association Inc. (NASAA) today announced panelists for its May 9 Policy Forum, which will focus on the regulatory and business issues raised as the first of the Baby Boom generation turns 60 this year and heads toward retirement.

The two-hour forum, entitled “The Baby Boom and Beyond,” begins at 9:30 a.m. and is part of NASAA’s annual Public Policy Conference, being held  at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, 1227 Connecticut Avenue, N.W. in Washington, D.C. The forum also will be webcast on the NASAA website. Following the forum, Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox will be the keynote speaker at a luncheon for conference attendees.

Moderated by Colorado Securities Commissioner Fred Joseph, the forum will examine how changing demographics are leading to changes in the way financial products and services, such as variable annuities and investment advice, are being developed and marketed to seniors, and the regulatory challenges these products and services present. Panelists include:

  • James Nelson, II, Mississippi Assistant Secretary of State, Office of the Secretary of State, Business Regulation & Enforcement Division;
  • Lori Richards, Director, Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission;
  • Marc Lackritz, President, Securities Industry Association;
  • Cecil Swamidoss, Counsel, Senate Special Committee on Aging;
  • Matt Thornhill, Founder, The Boomer Project; and
  • Janice I. Wassel, Director, Gerontology Program, University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
