The Board of Directors of the North American Securities Administrators Association, Inc. (NASAA) has authorized the release for internal and public comment proposed changes to the Uniform Branch Registration Form (Form BR), including its instructions. 

Background and Summary

Form BR is the form used for branch office registration, notification, closing or withdrawal.  Broker-dealers and investment advisers must use this form to register or notice file their branch offices in the appropriate participating jurisdictions and/or with self-regulatory organizations. NASAA’s CRD/IARD Steering Committee and NASAA’s CRD/IARD Forms and Process Committee have worked with other regulators and sought feedback from industry representatives to update Form BR and its instructions to reflect the current branch office supervisory structure, including removal of all references to the New York Stock Exchange, (particularly the NYSE Branch Information Section), as well as any obsolete terms.  Additional proposed revisions to Form BR and its instructions are designed to enhance the collection of branch-related information and clarify certain items, particularly in connection with information regarding branch activities and responsibilities, as well as outside business activities.
