Charting a Course for the Future of Financial Regulation

WASHINGTON, July 27, 2010—The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) will host its 93rd Annual Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, from September 26-28 to explore how the new world of financial regulation will impact investors, industry and regulators, NASAA President and Texas Securities Commissioner Denise Voigt Crawford said today.

The three-day conference will offer attendees an opportunity to take advantage of expert insight into the changes on the horizon for regulatory structures and industry practices following a year of congressional action in response to the financial turbulence that roiled through global financial markets and economies.

The conference will feature three discussion panels, each addressing the ramifications of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act from different perspectives. “Each panel will address the practical consequences facing the three principal groups affected by financial reform: regulators, industry and investors,” said Melanie Senter Lubin, Maryland Securities Commissioner and chair of this year’s conference.

In addition, the conference will include open forum discussions with NASAA Section Committees on issues related to broker-dealers, investment advisers, corporation finance, enforcement, investor education and CRD and IARD issues.

The conference also provides an opportunity to attend addresses from leading economics and political scholars. The September 26 featured speaker is Harvard University economist David Laibson, noted for his research of macroeconomics, psychology and economics, neuroeconomics, and household finance. The September 27 keynote luncheon speaker is distinguished congressional and presidential scholar Professor James Thurber, director of the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies at American University School of Public Affairs. NASAA President-elect David Massey of North Carolina will deliver the Presidential Address on September 28.

The conference will be held at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel at Baltimore’s famed Inner Harbor. The hotel reservation deadline is August 19. Please click here for an agenda and registration information.
