4:30 PM – 5:25 PM | Challenges and Risks of Super-Apps for Investor Protection
This panel will focus on the investor protection challenges and regulatory risks posed by the growth of super-apps. While these platforms offer convenience and innovation, their scale, complexity, and cross-functional design raise concerns related to conflicts of interest, data use, market integrity, and consumer harm. Panelists will examine how bundled services, algorithmic nudges, and cross-border operations can complicate disclosure, supervision, and enforcement, and may blur traditional regulatory boundaries. The discussion will also address how regulators can adapt existing frameworks—or develop new approaches—to mitigate risks while preserving the benefits of innovation.
Sherrell Forbes, Deputy Securities Administrator and Securities Division Director, North Carolina Securities Division (Moderator)
