WASHINGTON (July 7, 2003) — The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) today named Robert Webster, as Director of Communications to lead its communications program.

“State securities regulators play an important role in maintaining investor confidence by serving as an early warning system for financial fraud,” NASAA President Christine A. Bruenn said. “Bob’s knowledge of the securities industry, combined with his experience as a financial journalist, will help ensure that our message of putting investors first is widely heard and understood. We are delighted that he has joined us in this key position.”

Webster comes to NASAA from the Investment Company Institute, where he served as Assistant Vice President and directed the Institute’s media relations and policy communications program. Highlights of Webster’s ICI experience include supporting the organization’s media outreach and policy initiatives by developing a series of publications, including one in partnership with NASAA to help increase awareness and understanding of college savings plans.

Prior to joining ICI, Webster served as a director of media relations for the National Mining Association and as a national financial writer and editor covering economics and Wall Street for United Press International in Los Angeles, New York, and Washington.

Webster earned a B.A. in political science at the University of California, Riverside, and a M.A. in journalism at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

The oldest international organization devoted to investor protection, NASAA was founded in 1919 and is the voice of securities agencies responsible for grass-roots investor protection and efficient capital formation. Its membership consists of the securities administrators in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
