May 9 Conference also Features Forum on Financial Issues Affecting Baby Boomers

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 12, 2006) —U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox will be the keynote speaker at the North American Securities Administrators Association’s (NASAA) annual Public Policy Conference on Tuesday, May 9 in Washington, D.C., NASAA President and Wisconsin Securities Administrator Patricia D. Struck said today.

Since taking the helm of the SEC last August, Chairman Cox has focused his leadership on making vigorous enforcement of the nation’s securities laws the agency’s top priority. Most recently, he announced a series of new initiatives aimed specifically at helping older Americans prevent investment fraud. Several key components of the initiatives call for coordinated efforts with state securities regulators. He also has assumed leadership of the global effort to provide investors with interactive data about companies and mutual funds, and reinvigorated the agency’s initiative to provide important investor information in plain English.

The conference also will bring together a diverse panel of regulators, securities industry executives, policymakers, demographic experts and academics for a Policy Forum entitled “The Baby Boom and Beyond.” The Forum will explore regulatory and business issues raised as the first of the Baby Boom generation turn 60 this year and heads toward retirement.

The Forum will focus on how changing demographics are leading to changes in the way financial products and services, such as variable annuities and investment advice, are being developed and marketed to seniors, and the regulatory challenges these products and services present.

The conference will be held at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, 1227 Connecticut Avenue, N.W. in Washington, D.C. Click here for registration information and other details. Details also are available by calling Lonnie Martin at 202-737-0900.
