WASHINGTON, DC, July 16, 2020 –The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) announced today that its Electronic Filing Depository (EFD) System soon will accept mutual fund filings through the recently developed Universal Filing Type (UFT) functionality.

“We are pleased to provide greater electronic filing options to respond to the needs of regulators and industry affected by COVID-19 restrictions, which require a heavier reliance on remote working arrangements,” said William Beatty, chair of NASAA’s EFD Steering Committee and Director of the Washington Securities Division.

Beginning July 20, 2020, the UFT functionality will add an option for mutual fund notice filings to the list of accepted forms to be filed electronically. By doing so, filers will be able to submit mutual fund filings and payments directly to participating jurisdictions without relying on paper submissions. NASAA continues to develop a robust electronic filing system for mutual funds, which is targeted for deployment in 2021.

Developed by NASAA, the EFD System was launched in 2014 and was initially used for the electronic filing of Form D for Regulation D, Rule 506 offerings with state securities regulators.

The system was expanded in 2019 to facilitate the electronic filing of Form NF-UIT notice filings for unit investment trusts (UITs) with state securities regulators, and again in May 2020 with the development of the UFT functionality to accept additional corporation finance filings and  issuer-agent registrations to accommodate the needs of filers and regulators due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Filers can visit the EFD website for a list of the types of filings each jurisdiction will accept through the system. EFD is available at: www.efdnasaa.org.
