WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 2, 2019) —In recognition of World Investor Week (Sept. 30 – Oct. 6), the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) today announced the availability of a series of investor resources designed specifically for Millennials, who have surpassed Baby Boomers as the largest generation in the United States and account for nearly one-third of the global population.
Comprising nearly a quarter of the nation’s population, Millennials also make up nearly two-fifths of all working-age Americans – those saving and investing to build retirement nest eggs. “It is critically important that the Millennial generation has the fundamental financial foundation necessary to invest safely and make the best financial decisions for themselves and their families,” said Christopher Gerold NASAA President and Chief of the New Jersey Bureau of Securities.
NASAA’s online Millennial Money Mission, developed by the association’s Investor Education Section led by Montana Deputy Securities Commissioner Lynne Egan, includes resources to help educate Millennials on the importance of saving and investing and how to make sure they avoid common investment scams. These resources explain budgeting, compound interest, overcoming a fear of investing, and how to navigate the landscape of smartphone investing apps.
“We are pleased to provide resources to help provide Millennial investors with the tools they need to help develop sound savings and investing practices,” Gerold said.
NASAA’s Millennial Money Mission also includes a series of videos and links to other NASAA investor advisories of interest to Millennials. The Millennial Money Mission is available here.
Gerold added that NASAA’s Alerts and Advisories Project Group has developed a toolkit for use by its members to deliver outreach programs focused on Millennial investors in their jurisdictions.
World Investor Week is a week-long, global campaign promoted by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and protection and highlight the various initiatives of securities regulators in these two critical areas.
NASAA is the oldest international organization devoted to investor protection. Its membership consists of the securities administrators in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada and Mexico.
