Christopher Gerold Elected to Serve as President-Elect

WASHINGTON, DC, June 28, 2019 – The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) today announced that in a special election its membership has elected New Jersey Securities Bureau Chief Christopher W. Gerold to serve as President-elect.

Mr. Gerold will fill the position vacated by former President-elect Frank Borger-Gilligan, who withdrew from the position in advance of his departure from the Securities Division of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance earlier this month. Mr. Gerold will succeed NASAA President Michael Pieciak at the end of Mr. Pieciak’s term in September and serve as NASAA’s president for the 2019-2020 term.

“I want to thank Frank for his service and look forward to working with Chris in his new role as president-elect and supporting him as president when my term ends,” said NASAA President Pieciak said.

“I strongly support the work and mission of NASAA and look forward to leading our association as it enters its second century of investor protection and service to state and provincial securities regulators throughout North America,” President-elect Gerold said.

Mr. Gerold has served as Bureau Chief of the Bureau of Securities within the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General since 2017. He began his legal career as a Deputy Attorney General in the Securities Fraud Prosecution Section of the New Jersey Division of Law, where from 2005 to 2010 he represented the Bureau during investigations and as a lead trial attorney in litigated matters. Before returning to public service, Mr. Gerold was an attorney with the law firm of Chiesa, Shahinian & Giantomasi PC where he was a member of the firm’s Securities Litigation and Enforcement Group.

Mr. Gerold received his J.D. degree from Seton Hall Law and his B.S. degree in finance from Villanova University. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Gerold was a registered representative, having passed the Series 7 and 63 securities exams. He is admitted to the bar in New Jersey and New York.

Formed in 1919, NASAA is the oldest international organization focused on investor protection. In the United States NASAA is the voice of state securities regulators. As the securities regulators closest to investors, as well as many startup and small businesses, NASAA members have a unique perspective on national policy issues.
