Registration Now Open for September 23-25 Event

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 25, 2018) – Securities regulators and industry participants from throughout North America will gather in Anchorage, Alaska, in September for the North American Securities Administrators Association’s (NASAA) 100th annual meeting.

Under the theme “North to the Future: Opportunities for Investors & Challenges for Regulators,” the meeting will be held September 23-25. Meeting details and registration information are available on the NASAA website, here.

“Our program for this year’s meeting launches NASAA’s centennial celebration with a cohesive look ahead at the changes and challenges on the horizon for today’s investors, the securities industry and its regulators,” said Joseph P. Borg, NASAA President and Alabama Securities Commission Director. State securities members met collectively in 1918 in Chicago, where H.L. Carnham presided as NASAA’s first president, and NASAA was organized in 1919.

The program starts with a panel led by Ohio Securities Commissioner Andrea Seidt examining the standards of care for broker-dealers, with an emphasis on the SEC’s proposed Regulation Best Interest. The second panel, moderated by Maryland Securities Commissioner Melanie Lubin, will examine the impact on investors, industry and regulators from new investment opportunities created by advances in technology, a changing legal landscape, and the rise of socially responsible investing. The final panel, moderated by Nebraska Deputy Securities Director Claire McHenry, will explore the age of the “unicorn,” with a look at the shift toward private markets and how the tremendous growth in this area is affecting regulators and investors alike.

NASAA is pleased to announce that the keynote address will be given by cryptocurrency expert Peter Van Valkenburg, director of research at Coin Center, a leading non-profit research and advocacy center focused on the public policy issues facing cryptocurrency and decentralized computing technologies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

NASAA’s incoming president, Vermont Commissioner of Financial Regulation Michael Pieciak, will deliver the presidential address on Tuesday, September 25.

The meeting also offers attendees an opportunity to learn about the work underway at NASAA and its various committees. These presentations will cover a broad array of topics from the regulation of investment advisers and broker-dealers to enforcement trends, investor education and corporation finance initiatives.

NASAA is offering a discounted registration fee for those who register by August 12, 2018. For more information, visit NASAA’s website at www.nasaa.org.
