NASAA President Heath Abshure

A. HEATH ABSHURE began a one-year term as president of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) on September 11, 2012. NASAA is the oldest international organization devoted to investor protection. Its membership consists of the securities administrators in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada and Mexico.

He was appointed as Arkansas Securities Commissioner in 2007 by Governor Mike Beebe. Abshure began his legal career at a firm in Little Rock before joining the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2000 to serve as Senior Attorney-Adviser in the Office of the Administrative Law Judges. In 2002, he returned to Little Rock and joined the firm of Williams & Anderson, specializing in corporate securities and municipal bond issues.

Abshure has served NASAA as Vice President, President-elect, chair and member of the Corporation Finance Section, and chair of the Reg D Electronic Filing Committee, Small Business/Capital Formation Committee and Rating Agencies Committees. He has also served as a member of NASAA’s Corporation Finance Section, Dodd Frank Studies Working Group, Federal Legislation Committee, and the Reg D Electronic Filing Committee.

He graduated, cum laude, from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He obtained his law degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, William H. Bowen School of Law, with high honors. While working at the SEC, Heath attended the Georgetown University Law Center and obtained a Master of Laws with distinction in Securities and Financial Regulation.

He currently serves as a member of the SEC Advisory Committee on Small and Emerging Companies, is a board member of Economics Arkansas, a private, non-profit, educational organization that promotes economic literacy in Arkansas and is an Adjunct Professor teaching securities regulation at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Law School.
