Conference to Feature Panels, Forums on Topics of Interest to Securities Regulators and Financial Service Industry

WASHINGTON (July 12, 2005) —The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) will host its 88th Annual Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from September 11-14 to examine investor protection issues of importance to securities regulators and the financial services industry, NASAA President and New Jersey Bureau of Securities Chief Franklin L. Widmann said today.

The 2005 NASAA conference offers all participants the opportunity to gather to discuss emerging issues in the financial services industry and regulatory arena. The three-day conference will feature four discussion panels addressing some of the most critical matters confronting today’s investors, industry members, and regulators, Widmann said.

Panelists will discuss: coordinated enforcement efforts by state, federal and local authorities; the current status of attempts to preempt state securities regulations; the effectiveness of existing disclosure requirements for financial products and services; and the challenges and consequences of recent rulemaking.

In addition, the conference will include open forum discussions with NASAA Section Committees on issues related to CRD and IARD, broker-dealers, investment advisers, corporation finance, enforcement, and investor education.

The September 11 keynote speaker will be John Bryant, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Operation HOPE, a national non-profit organization that seeks to bring economic self-sufficiency and a sustained spirit of revitalization to America’s inner-city communities. The September 12 keynote speaker will be Newsweek’s Wall Street Editor Allan Sloan. NASAA President-elect Patricia Struck of Wisconsin will deliver her Presidential Address on September 13.

The conference will be held at the Hilton Minneapolis. The hotel reservation deadline is August 8.
