WASHINGTON, DC, April 24, 2017 –The North American Securities Administrators Association, Inc. (NASAA) announced its support of National Financial Capability Month by showcasing the wide variety of investor education outreach programs offered by its members.

Mike Rothman, NASAA’s President and Minnesota Commissioner of Commerce, said NASAA members throughout North America offer a wealth of free investor education programs and tools for a variety of audiences, ranging from retirees to millennials.

“It’s hard to overestimate the importance of our investor education role – because what’s at stake is often people’s life savings,” Rothman said. “One of our key functions as regulators is to continually enhance our investor education outreach to inform investors on how to avoid bad actors who commit fraud and abuse.”

Most state securities regulators have established investor education departments or divisions within their agencies. The result is an effective network of dedicated professionals delivering unbiased, relevant, and free investor education programming at the grassroots level throughout North America.

“From kindergarten to retirement, people should have the tools they need for financial opportunity and protection to help manage their money,” Rothman said.

“Financial capability is about educating and empowering all people of every age to take charge of their financial futures. Not only does it help people step up the ladder of economic opportunity and wealth, but also it helps to protect against predatory financial tricks and traps.”

An overview of current investor education outreach programs available from state and provincial securities regulators as well as information on how to request a program be delivered to your group or workplace is available on the NASAA website here.
