WASHINGTON (November 28, 2012) — The following is a statement from Heath Abshure, president of the North American Securities Administrators Association and Arkansas Securities Commissioner, regarding the upcoming leadership change at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Earlier this week, President Obama designated SEC Commissioner Elisse Walter as chairman of the SEC effective December 14, 2012 when current SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro departs.

“As chairman of the SEC, Mary Schapiro strengthened the longstanding cooperative relationship between state and federal securities regulators and underscored the importance of strong government regulation of financial services professionals to protect Main Street investors. We look forward to building on this partnership with Chairman Walter.”
